Chasing golden hour
September 19, 2026 by Amber Miles
Golden hour is the internet's favorite filter, but outside, with no filter at all, it is even better. For about twenty minutes every evening the whole street looks like it is forgiving you for something.
I have started timing my walks around it. No headphones, no destination, just whatever direction the light looks prettiest. There is a stretch near my house where the sun drops between the trees and the whole sidewalk turns honey colored.
It is hard to stay in a bad mood when the world is doing its best impression of a painting. I think that is the whole trick of positivity, honestly. Not pretending everything is perfect, just noticing the parts that already are.
The walk ends. The light goes. But the calm it leaves behind sticks around through dinner and well past bedtime.
Catch a sunset this week if you can. It is free, it is beautiful, and it happens every single day whether we show up or not.
